Removing braids the right way makes a big difference in keeping your hair healthy and preventing breakage. Here’s a step-by-step guide to safely and gently remove them.

Prep Your Hair First
Detangle gently:
If your braids have been in for a while, spray your hair with a mixture of water and conditioner or a detangling spray. This softens the hair and loosens buildup.

Taking braids out dry can lead to snapping and breakage.
Cut Carefully (if extensions are used)
If your braids have added hair, cut below where your natural hair ends.
Better to cut a little longer than you think just in case so you don’t accidentally snip your own hair.

Take Out the Braids Gently
Start from the ends and work upward.
Use your fingers or a rat-tail comb to unravel each braid slowly, pulling or rushing can cause shedding or tangling.
Remove Shedding & Buildup
Once all braids are out, finger-detangle first to remove shed hair.
Then gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb before washing.

Cleanse & Deep Condition.
Use a moisturizing shampoo to remove product and dirt buildup,
follow up with a deep conditioner or hair mask to restore moisture and elasticity.

Let Your Hair Rest
Give your hair at least a few days to a week before reinstalling braids or extensions.
During this time, moisturize your scalp, do a light protein treatment if needed, and let your strands breathe.
